The challenge of communication in a growing team

We are by no means a large team, but communication being strong helps us to make sure our business is focussing in the right areas at the right time to allow us to keep growing. This has become even more important since we have introduced new disciplines across our team to deliver services for both our brands and the brands we work with.

In a world where we are all time poor, we need to make sure we have the right tools and processes in our business to make sure our messages are getting to each other as clearly as possible. We have 3 key things in our business that helps us deliver a complex level of services across multiple brands and covering off several disciplines – from social media to sales strategy and building marketing decks to mentoring founders to grow. As business owners, Rhys and myself must stay on top of what’s going on in our business, and these are the tools we use;

1.    WhatsApp. With a lot of projects that require separate groups, our team use WhatsApp to communicate in the moment. It allows us to capture thoughts and deliver them instantly to each other so we can be reactive. We will also use this for small group calls – usually video. This is an incredible app considering its free, and incredibly vital for keeping our business moving at pace. There is also a desktop feature now!

2.    Monday.com. This has been a brilliant edition to our task planning, project management and prioritising what we are working on. It’s a task planner, where you can build bespoke boards to manage your business/project. Right now, I’m not sure we could manage the level of complexity in our business without it. Its great for us managing the business to be able to see what is going on in the business at any one time, and a tool we use to give transparency to the brands we work with. This is well worth checking out if your business works in across multiple areas

3.    VTV (Visionary TV). This is the newest edition to our working life, and the brainchild of our marketing manager Becci. Every Friday Rhys and I (when we can be together) film a 10-minute video where we discuss what’s happened in the week and what the priorities are for the next week. It’s a fun way to engage everyone and can be watched when the guys find 10 minutes in their evening. It allows us to share our thoughts on the week’s events, focus on what’s coming up and to celebrate successes.

I will never say our communication internally is perfect, but we work hard on making sure it’s as good as it can be. I would love to hear the tools and technologies other people have used in the business for effective communication so give me a shout and let me know!
